My Daughter's Attempted Suicide on SSRIs

Antidepressants

"I have lost count of how many times she has tried to kill herself in the last three years..."

My daughter after heavy drinking and taking Ecstasy had something to happen to her. I am not sure what she has told her Doctors. One night after heavy drinking she tried to kill herself by taking Tyrol and Benadryl. They took her to the hospital and locked her up for three days and started her on some drugs. She got out and in a few days she tried again. This time they started her on Effexor and some other drugs. I looked them up and saw the side effects and begged them not to put her on it but no one listen to me. She took them for a year then went off herself and tried again. This time they put her on several different drugs. She started gaining weight so she bought over the counter diet pills and took. Then she couldn't sleep so she took over the counter sleeping pills and was still drinking. I have lost count of how many times she has tried to kill herself in the last three years, but up until the last time she would always call and tell someone she had took pills, so I know she didn't really want to kill herself. In the last three years she has taken over twenty different drugs.

Every time they just put her on a bunch of new drugs. The last time she tried was in August. She took a bunch of pills and got in her car and started to work. She blacked out and wrecked her car. They locked her up again for two week and then we sent her to a place in California where we thought they would help get her off the drugs, but within a week after she got there the Doctor there had her on nine different drugs. I called and had a fit with them. I told them since she started the drugs she had gotten worse wanting more and more and the yo yo of diet and sleeping pills because of gaining weight and not being able to sleep from the medicine.

They told me she needed them. I tried to tell her I thought the drugs was causing all her problems that she had gotten so much worse she went on them. She quit calling me and shut me out. The drugs has her convinced she can't do without them, and the Doctors sure aren't going to help her get off them. I started looking up things on the internet and found out about your diet having a lot to do with depression and also found your site about the drugs convincing me even more that the drugs are her problem. They have brought her down to four drugs now Anafranil, Risperdal, Lexapro, Norpramin. From what I have looked up these drugs are very hard on your heart. She has already had one spell with her heart and she has asthma. My family has a history of heart problems so I am very worried about these drugs. She has been in this place for two months and gets out next week and is no better off then when she went in. I have your tape and book but don't know how to get her to take and read them and how to get her to realize the drugs are her problem and to want to get off of them.

Also I don't know how to go about getting a Doctor in St. Louis where she lives to help her if she decided to get off them. If you know of a Doctor in that area or can help me in any way I would appreciate it.
