His medication was changed to Paxil and this was really bad for him.

My son Eric was placed on a low dose of Zoloft ( 50 mgs ) at age 15 for depression. Although he reported it made him feel better, it had some weird side effects. He reportedly told his psychiatrist he felt like he was in a dream world. I also noticed that he started picking at his skin constantly, something he had never done. The most alarming side effect was that he became more aggressive and assertive, when he had been previously been shy. After about 6 weeks his dosage was increased to 75 mg and the alarming side effects increased and he also started drinking .
He ended up getting caught drinking at a high school BB game and we placed him in the psych ward. His dosage was increased to the max ( 150 mg ) and this is where the trouble really started. He became extremely agitated easily and started having anxiety attacks. His medication was changed to Paxil and this was really bad for him. He developed extreme anxiety, disordered thinking, and complained of racing thoughts. He was placed on other medication to calm the side effects down but still had many problems.
I began weaning him off the meds after he was on them for 4 - 5 months. He has been off of them for 2 years now and has had no more depression, no disordered thinking and no anxiety.
I am thankful for his state of mind now, but he lost a lot in the 4 - 5 months he was medicated. He was an all-state soccer player and an A student and ending up having to drop out of both soccer and high school. I am sure it was the medication that caused this.
It was a both a personal nightmare for him and also for us, his family.
