MI Mother Charged for Dismembering Son (32)

Donna Scrivo

Donna Scrivo

Michigan is one of those states that if I focused on the cases there I would never get any others taken care of. Antidepressants have been rampant there for a long long time since Kip Arntz killed his wife, cut off her head, put it in a box on the neighbors porch and cooked the rest of her up at their taco stand. After being on Prozac for some time Kip had been diagnosed with a brain tumor. They took him off Prozac for the brain surgery to remove the tumor and then sent him home three days later. So on top of mixing the anesthesia with the Prozac in his system he was in cold turkey withdrawal. His wife did not have a chance with that scenario!

Anyway in this case according to court documents, Donna Scrivo filed a petition seeking hospitalization for mental illness of her son in May and was granted guardianship. This was shortly after the husband/father’s death. “From what I understand, it (the father’s death) did have a negative impact on the family.” And when translated that statement generally means all family members got a prescription for an antidepressant, but in Michigan it generally would mean the dose of their antidepressant was increased or another added to what they were already on as would be the case in UT, FL, NC, OR or WA – it appears to be mainly the areas where early clinical trials took place. The rest of the country is rapidly catching up in their antidepressant use though!

But whether it was self defense needed because the son was becoming seriously aggressive on his meds or something gone wrong with the mother’s meds remains to be seen. This is a case I would have little concern about an antidepressant being found to have played a major part though.

“It just seems so out of character,” Odren, Donna Scrivo’s neighbor, said. “That’s what makes this so hard to process. She had such a good relationship with Ramsay. I would never expect anyone to (dismember their child).

“We’re anxious to figure out what happened.”

Keep an eye on this one as it plays out in the press. Mothers do not regularly cut up their sons.

UT Mother and Two Daughters Dead in Murder/Suicide

Syracuse Murder Suicide

Syracuse Mother and Two Daughters Dead

Kyler

Kyler (32), Kenadee (13), Isabella (7)

UPDATE: 1/17/13: See latest news below stating link to “history of depression” ….

Tuesday evening the news broke that three bodies had been found in this home after neighbors heard what they thought to be gun shots. This morning police announced that it was a mother and her two daughters who were found dead. Police identify them as Kyler Ramsdell-Oliva, 32, and her two daughters — Kenadee Oliva, 13, and Isabella Oliva, 7. What an absolutely beautiful mother and daughters! We are still waiting to learn who killed whom. Be it mother or daughter who was doing the shooting, in both cases we find the use of antidepressants to be very, very high. (It has been confirmed that mother was the shooter.)

Here is one comment from Kyler’s Facebook page indicating there were some health issues:

  • Thanks for your input Kyler..I am so sick of Drs and their guessing games but I am with you on the signs…hopefully next year will be much better for us all..love you Sweetpea be happy

Well mid Oct appears to have been a perfect time for the prescribing of an antidepressant or the increase in an existing one. This was Kyler’s post about her grandfather who passed away then. He died days after this post: Kyler Ramsdell-Oliva

  • October 10, 2013
My grandpa, who is my heart amd soul, my hero, my love is passing from this world to the next soon. I’m not much of a prayer but please pray for his wife and our family.
And sadly the youngest child,  Bella,  had her seventh birthday just Saturday the 11th.

To indicate how completely out of character such a violent act as this murder/suicide was for Kyler … she posted this on her Facebook page just three weeks ago:

1505032_10151922983522909_241620271_n

The following is the comment I posted in the local news on this case – something all of us should be doing when these tragedies happen. I would have posted our database of cases (www.ssristories.drugawareness.org) mentioned if this news source allowed links but they do not.

“David W. you are correct that it is rare for a mother to take the lives of her children, but not when the mother is on an antidepressant. After tracking such cases for 25 years in building a database of these cases, which has been used in scientific studies, I suspected such to be the case last night when the news first broke and called a friend in the neighborhood to confirm that.

“Our research indicates over 90% of these mothers are taking or in a few cases have just abruptly discontinued the use of an antidepressant. And it was 15 years ago now that I did the Leeza Gibbons Show addressing this very issue. Sadly nothing has changed since then other than the increased frequency of the cases – little different than what we have found with well over 90% of school shooters being on antidepressants. Curious that both were extremely rare before the introduction of these new designer antidepressants which now have both suicidal and homicidal ideation (compulsive thoughts) listed as potential side effects.

“In this case I once again await confirmation of that connection to these drugs while I continue to wait for the world to see the evidence I have seen in over two decades of testifying as an expert witness in these cases.

“Why post here? Because this is a public safety issue that never should have remained hidden from the general public due to vested interests. Even in doing the Leeza Gibbons Show we were told as we walked onto the stage that we would be allowed to say the word “antidepressant” but we were not to say the brand names of the drugs “because of our advertisers.”

Depression connection mentioned 1/17/13:

“On Tuesday, Kyler Ramsdell-Oliva, 32, shot her two daughters, Kenadee Oliva, 13, and Isabella Oliva, 7, in their Syracuse home before killing herself.

“The mother had just broken up with her fiance and told him to leave their home. Close friend Pegi Butler said Ramsdell-Oliva had fought depression, but things in her life had improved in recent years. She confessed to Butler that she still loved the man deeply but was heartbroken. Still, Butler never suspected she or the girls were in any danger when they spoke on Sunday.”

Read more at http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=28387824#qBzJTOl6cZ8wOzzw.99

In another article Pegi Butler went on to say, “Over the past three years, Butler was hopeful Ramsdell-Oliva was conquering the depression she had fought through her youth, agreeing to participate in counseling and getting her life running smoothly.”

So with being treated for depression for so many years it is clear to me she was either currently on an antidepressant or in withdrawal from one when the shooting occurred.

Ex-cop Kills Man in Upscale FL Movie Theater Over Texting

CurtisReeves

Curtis Reeves Faces Murder Charges

In an upscale movie theater in Tampa, Florida a highly respected 71 year old ex-police officer, Curtis Reeves, shot and killed a man over an argument about his texting during the previews before the movie started. Reeves said he feared for his life after the man, Chad Oulson, 43, threw popcorn at him during the argument.

Many questions remain…

Had his gun not jammed after that first shot that killed Chad Oulson, could there have been other victims or a suicide?

Where did such unjustified fear come from? Was it triggered the same way that paranoia came for George Zimmerman – a pill? With George it was Adderall. Was there a pill behind the fear that Curtis Reeves experienced before killing Chad Oulson, a father who was simply texting messages to his 3 year old daughter’s babysitter before the movie began?

Mr. Reeves apparently had a recent history of being very bothered over simple things…

“The judge was told that after hearing about the shooting on the news, a woman had contacted police to say Reeves had told her off for texting when she was watching a film on December 28.
Although she didn’t make a complaint at the time, the woman claimed Reeves had ‘glared at her the entire time throughout the movie and afterwards’ even following her to the rest room at one point.
A neighbor, Matthew Harris, told the Tampa Bay Times that Reeves had confronted him about 18 months ago for having his car stereo too loud.
‘He kind of snapped at me at first, but then he calmed down,’ Mr Harris said, adding that Reeves had told him he used to be in the police.”

Clearly something does not seem right about this case and someone needs to be checking medications. Florida has long had one of the highest rates of use of antidepressants and we all know how often the elderly are drugged with multiple meds.

12 Year Old Opens Fire in NM School Gym Injuring Two

Roswell school shooting

Roswell, NM, Boy, 12, Apprehended After Shooting Two

Mason Campbell

Mason Campbell, 12, NM School Shooter

Yet another school shooting while the government wastes time looking for ways to ban guns and drug more people deemed “mentally ill” because if they admit it is being caused by the drugs they approved as “safe and effective” where does that leave them? So it continues and we are left to ask once again, “How many more must die before the truth be told about the deadly antidepressant drugs that are the common denominator in over 95% of school shootings?”

Why are we continuing to talk about guns when guns have been in homes for centuries in America and the school shootings only became an issue after the SSRI antidepressants were introduced to the market? When I was a kid (I may be dating myself) growing up in Arizona everyone had guns. In fact all the cowboys brought their rifles to school because they always kept them hanging in the back window of their pickup trucks. We never had shootings or threats of shootings or arguments where someone pulled out a gun to settle the dispute. Those only began to become epidemic when the first SSRI antidepressant, Prozac, hit the market the end of 1987.

In New Mexico children as young as this young man cannot be tried as an adult.

Additional Critical Information on School Shootings

Prophetic statement to me by a pharmacist on school shootings in 1999:

“The symptoms I see in patients who abuse serotonergic drugs of any form…could aptly be described as the “Hitler syndrome” (over confidence in ones own policies or decisions, no fear of consequences, criminal behavior, death of people close to the abuser as the preferred method of solving problems in the abusers life, coldness and lack of humanity). I feel that in twenty years or less we will be confronted not with one Hitler but with thousands or millions… numbers so great that we will be forced to interact with their distorted thinking on a daily basis. (Littleton, CO., Riverton, KS., Jonesboro, AR., eventually little Hitlers in every town in America will grow up into BIG HITLERS) It is happening right now.

“The most insidious factor about long-term serotonin abuse is that it enhances the individuals persona to the point that they are able to manipulate others into their way of thinking just as Hitler did. This causes the distorted thinking, abnormal behavior, and loss of morality to spread like a contagion to otherwise normal people who have not even been exposed to the drugs. Those on the drugs are converted by the pharmacologic/physiologic processes into sociopathic demagogues.

“Do you have any comments on these thoughts, Ann? Please respond. Tell me we are not the only ones who see what is happening to our world!” (From Prozac: Panacea or Pandora? – Our Serotonin Nightmare)

Antidepressant: Woman Who Made False Accusations of Abuse at Duke Found Guilty of Murder

crystalmagnum

Crystal Magnum

Found Guilty of Murder

This case makes it clear why it is so important for the public and the judicial system to recognize and understand these antidepressant-induced False Accusations of Abuse or recognize any of the early toxic reactions. This case of her false accusations of abuse against the Duke players was a warning sign of potentially more dangerous toxic reactions to her medication. Even though the story below refers to the case and states that “Magnum’s inconsistent story and her mental stability was called into question” still no one linked her questionable mental stability to adverse reactions to her antidepressant. If someone would have known enough to see her first case as a toxic reaction to the antidepressants she was on, and these false accusations of abuse are such common reactions to antidepressants, then they should have known enough to wean her off the medications at that point … before it reached the point of her committing murder as the drug reactions worsened leading to violence. This was completely preventable!!!

You can see the progress of the toxicity in her behavior listed below:

* 2006 – Falsely accused three Duke lacrosse players of raping her in a gang rape…Magnum’s inconsistent story and her mental stability was called into question. …Prosecutors declined to press charges for the false accusations, but Mangum’s bizarre legal troubles continued.

* Not long after she was convicted on misdemeanor charges of setting a fire that nearly razed her home with her three children inside.

* In a videotaped police interrogation, she told officers she set got into a confrontation with her boyfriend at the time – not Daye – and burned his clothes, smashed his car windshield and threatened to stab him.

* 2011 – Stabbed boyfriend, Reginald Daye, killing him.

You can find all of this listed as examples of antidepressant toxic reactions in my 2004 http://www.drugawareness.org/fda-testimony/dr-ann-blake-tracys-september-13-2004-to-the-fda and 2006 testimonies before the FDA http://www.drugawareness.org/fda-testimony/dr-ann-blake-tracys-december-13-2006-to-the-fda

LAX SHOOTING – APPARENTLY TSA POLICY WAS CAUSE OF DEATH

AnaHernandez

ANA HERNANDEZ

Well whether LAX shooter, Paul Ciancia, was on an antidepressant or not, it appears that the charge of “murder” needs to at least be downgraded to “attempted murder” for him.

Why?

No, the TSA agent has not been brought back from the dead, but a preliminary report indicates something that should not surprise anyone who flies…apparently Gerardo Hernandez did not die from the gunshot, but instead lost his life to TSA policy that kept emergency responders from entering the area to help him for 33 minutes – 28 minutes after Paul Ciancia had been taken into custody. The preliminary report strongly indicates that Mr. Hernandez apparently bled to death during that period.

Clearly the threat to society from antidepressants is not just the impulsive and delusional violence they are known to produce, but also the threat from so many brains that can no longer function as they should in order to respond as one would expect in an emergency situation. Patients have long referred to antidepressants as the “I don’t give a damn” drugs. Some mothers have discontinued the drugs because they have realized that in emergency situations they do not respond rapidly enough which could cost them the lives of their children. When I did an interview with Salt Lake City Magazine in 1992 the reporter made an interesting find – 60% of Utah State employees were currently taking antidepressants!

Who knows how high it must be now as this antidepressant plague has crossed the country and circled the world! We have recently learned that 25% of Parliament in Australia is on them and 25% of Australian physicians are on them. How many who stood by and watched this man die were on them? And the next time you call 911 what are the responders in your situation going to be under the influence of? I propose that this is as dangerous a situation, if not more so, than those antidepressant users who become hostile and aggressive going on shooting sprees.

From the original article we read:

TSA OFFICER BLED FOR 33 MINUTES IN LAX SHOOTING

LOS ANGELES — An airport security officer lay helplessly bleeding after a gunman opened fire at Los Angeles International Airport as paramedics waited 150 yards away because police had not declared the terminal safe to enter, according to two law enforcement officials.

It would be 33 minutes before Transportation Security Administration Officer Gerardo Hernandez, who was about 20 feet from an exit, would be wheeled out by police to an ambulance, said the officials, who were briefed on the investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity because the probe was still ongoing into the Nov. 1 shooting.

For all but five of those minutes, there was no threat from the suspected gunman — he had been shot and was in custody, they said.

While it’s not known when Hernandez died or if immediate medical attention could have saved his life…

The head of the TSA union on Friday said he was appalled at the news, calling the delay “absolutely unacceptable,” according to KNBC-TV. American Federation of Government Employees president J. David Cox Sr. is calling for a “serious reexamination” of TSA security policies.

Formal conclusions may take months to reach, but what’s known raises the possibility that a lack of coordination between police and fire officials prevented speedy treatment for Hernandez and other victims….click link below to continue reading…

Former Utah man accused of killing his wife, a Filipina model

Aiko Jim 3

Aiko and James Edward Moore II

After beating his wife to death Jim Moore then called his first wife to apologize for everything he had ever done, alluded to committing suicide, then hung up and attempted to kill himself. This has left his visiting five year old son stranded at an orphanage in the Philippines.

His comment on this picture in May: “Aiko, you are absolutely gorgeous, radiant and blooming, and this photo only begins to capture that essence. How did I get so lucky?”

Another entry on January 1 reads: “HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Greatest Holiday Season EVER!! What more could a father ask for? A loving wife, endearing children, and all together for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year. This is a first for me, and I must say, I wouldn’t trade it up for the world!! I love u all!”

Someone stated in the comments on the following news article about the murder/suicide attempt that this is a nightmare. My response follows:

“A nightmare is right! Now to learn if it was literally a nightmare as it was the case in the murder of comedian Phil Hartman where his wife acted out her nightmare in a REM Sleep Behavior Disorder. Someone needs to ask if Jim was taking an antidepressant (often given after a divorce) because these drugs produce REM Sleep Behavior Disorder known to produce both murder and suicide. In fact 86% of those diagnosed with this deadly sleep disorder are taking antidepressants. Did he stop taking it when he remarried and then start again when the typhoon hit? According to FDA warnings, these abrupt changes in dose can cause suicide, hostility and/or psychosis. There were indications of all three of those in this case.

“Here is your clue that this was not just a normal argument but that something went terribly wrong: “At 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, Seddon said she got an incoherent phone call from her ex-husband, James Edward Moore II.

“He basically told me that he’s very sorry for everything that’s happened, that he’s done, to please forgive him,” Seddon said.

“Seddon said Moore threatened suicide, then hung up.” See full articles below…

Remember the case of the elderly man, David Benson, in Southern Utah, who last year on Halloween morning hit his wife in the kitchen in the back of the head with a hammer, then beat her to death with the hammer by hitting her in the face while under the influence of multiple prescription meds. This was a couple so much in love that friends and neighbors said seeing them together was like watching two 16 year olds in love.

As I said in the blog on the case I posted last night of the young man in SLC who stabbed his grandmother 111 times a drug company expert was compelled to testify of his own research on serotonin in a mass murder/suicide case in WY in 2001 (Tobin vs Glaxo). His work, as so many other studies on serotonin since 1950 determined as well, when you impair the body’s ability to metabolize serotonin (serotonin reuptake inhibition – considered the therapeutic aspect of antidepressants) you produce impulsive murder and suicide. The jury determined after hearing all the evidence (something the public has never heard) that the two tablets of antidepressants the man had taken was the main cause of this murder/suicide.

ZOLOFT & ZYPREXA: GRANDSON STABS GRANDMOTHER 111 TIMES

Zak Weston

ZACHARY COLE WESTON

Just over a year ago on October 3, 2012 while under the influence of Zoloft and Zyprexa Zak Cole killed his grandmother stabbing her 111 times. The attack was brutal and very gruesome. You can read the details below from the original article.

“SALT LAKE CITY — Prosecutors say a man accused of killing his grandmother in her Avenues home stabbed her 111 times.

“Disturbing new court documents were released Friday as Zachary Cole Weston, 21, was charged with aggravated murder, a capital offense.

“Weston is accused of stabbing Joyce Dexter, 84, multiple times on Oct. 3. Police were called to Dexter’s house, 310 J St., where Weston was living, on a report of a possible domestic disturbance. When they arrived, they found Weston standing over his grandmother while holding a bloody knife, the charges state. He also had blood on his hands and clothing.

“Weston told investigators that he “stabbed his grandma” and admitted that he “slit her belly, her jugular and her heart,” charging documents state. A medical examiner later determined that nine of the 111 stab wounds were to the heart. Prosecutors said several of the victim’s internal organs had also been removed.”

Clearly he had serious reactions to medications with several charges being filed for other incidents within the past couple of years before this tragedy. What a shame that no one caught it all sooner to wean him off the medications. Knowing UNI as I do, it being the first place I was ever invited to lecture on the subject of violence associated with the SSRI antidepressants, I can tell you there is no way they would have ever picked up on what was happening to him!

Once again I repeat that medical research has been clear from the early 50’s that increasing serotonin via interfering with the metabolism of serotonin (or serotonin reuptake inhibition – exactly the mode of action of SSRI and SNRI antidepressants) will produce impulsive murder and/or suicide. For verification of that feel free to access the court testimony of Dr. John Mann in the WY case of Tobin vs Glaxo, decision 2001. Dr. Mann was the expert witness for Glaxo yet was compelled to testify to his years of research into serotonin and impulsive murder and suicide.

The Physicians Desk Reference states that antidepressants can cause mania, psychosis, abnormal thinking, paranoia, hostility, aggression, agitation, confusion, amnesia, abnormal dreams, sleep disorders and a host of other adverse neuropsychiatric effects. Withdrawal, especially abrupt withdrawal, can also cause these same adverse effects.

Weston is accused of stabbing Joyce Dexter, 84, multiple times on Oct. 3. Police were called to Dexter’s house, 310 J St., where Weston was living, on a report of a possible domestic disturbance. When they arrived, they found Weston standing over his grandmother while holding a bloody knife, the charges state. He also had blood on his hands and clothing.

Weston told investigators that he “stabbed his grandma” and admitted that he “slit her belly, her jugular and her heart,” charging documents state. A medical examiner later determined that nine of the 111 stab wounds were to the heart. Prosecutors said several of the victim’s internal organs had also been removed.
Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill could not comment Friday on a possible motive or Weston’s possible state of mind at the time of the attack. He praised police, however, for responding so quickly to the crime scene and confronting the grandson before he left.

Family members have told reporters Weston suffered from a mental illness.

Weston has been involved in a recent series of incidents against relatives and others, showing an apparent trend of increasing violence, according to court records.

Last week, he was charged in 3rd District Court in an unrelated assault against another family member. On Sept. 27, Weston, who was living at the time with his father, got into an argument with his dad and began hitting him, according to court documents. When a female friend of Walt Weston, who was also at the house, tried to intervene, Zach Weston allegedly bit her.

In 2010, Weston was arrested for shoving his mother and hitting a police officer. He pleaded guilty to one of two assault charges. As part of his sentence, he was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation and complete any recommended treatment.

On Aug. 8, Weston was at the University Neuropsychiatric Institute at University Hospital for an initial assessment when he slapped a UNI employee with an open hand, according to a University of Utah police report, and punched another in the face.

For those incidents, he was charged on Aug. 9 with two counts of assault and interfering with a police officer during an arrest, class B misdemeanors. On Sept. 24 he was charged with two counts of battery and making a false alarm, also class B misdemeanors.

Zoloft: Republic, MO woman arrested Wednesday in 2011 death of her toddler

Julie Horstmyer

Julie Horstmyer, 31

Our thanks goes out to our Southern Washington State Director, Jay Baadsgard, for bringing this case to our attention…. For two decades I have said that Pfizer has turned the Land of OZ completely upside down to change it into the Land of ZO as they have flooded KS and MO with their antidepressant, Zoloft.

In another case out of MO a mother has been charged in the death of her baby daughter. Two years ago in November of 2011 Julie Horstmyer called to report the death of her two year old daughter Berklee Marie Robertson. Apparently officials initially thought the baby had died of SIDS. But as it turned out the baby had ingested her own mother’s prescription for Zoloft. The medical examiner determined that the baby died of an overdose of Zoloft.

Although officials believe the mother intentionally gave the drug to the baby they have charged her with involuntary manslaughter in the death of the child.

WITHDRAWAL WARNING: In sharing this information about adverse reactions to antidepressants I always recommend that you also give reference to my CD on safe withdrawal, Help! I Can’t Get Off My Antidepressant!, so that we do not have more people dropping off these drugs too quickly – a move which I have warned from the beginning can be even more dangerous than staying on the drugs!

The FDA also now warns that any abrupt change in dose of an antidepressant can produce suicide, hostility or psychosis. These reactions can either come on very rapidly or even be delayed for months depending upon the adverse effects upon sleep patterns when the withdrawal is rapid! You can find the hour and a half long CD on safe and effective withdrawal helps here:http://store.drugawareness.org/

Republic Woman Charged and Arrested for Child’s Death

CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Mo. — A Republic woman is accused of causing her two year old daughter’s death two years ago.

Julie Horstmyer is charged with involuntary manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child.

Two year old Berklee Robertson was found dead inside a home in Clever, MO in November of 2011.

A grand jury indictment states Horstmyer gave the young girl Sertraline, better known as Zoloft, then failed to seek medical assistance.

“It’s kind of scary,” says Clever Resident Geri Wallen. “But it’s just a sad story.” Wallen lived next door to Horstmyer at the time of the two year old’s death.

Wallen remembers police and ambulance vehicles lined up outside her neighbor’s home back on November 5, 2011. It wasn’t long after that she found out the reason for all the ruckus was that a two year old child passed away.

“We didn’t know what to think,” Wallen says. “I didn’t think there would be any foul play. I just prayed for the little girl and her family because it’s such a loss.”

Now, two years later, Julie Horstmyer is facing charges of involuntary manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child.

“What it boils down to is there was quite a bit of forensic evidence that came back at a later date,” says Christian County Sheriff Joey Kyle. “That made the case considerably stronger.”

Sheriff Kyle says there was always a strong suspicion that Horstmyer had some involvement in two year old Berklee’s death.

“Upon arrival, nothing really seemed out of place except possibly a SIDS death,” says Sheriff Kyle. “But during the autopsy, we discovered things that led us to believe it wasn’t negligence but more of a deliberate act.”

The Sheriff couldn’t go into detail, but tells us the charges are based on what the prosecutor feels they can prove during trial.

“It’s primarily stuff like trace elements, toxicology reports, opinions from pathologists,” say Sheriff Kyle.

Neighbors living along Little Avenue says they rarely saw Horstmyer or her two year old child when they lived there two years ago.

“It’s unnerving since I have kids of my own,” says Wallen. “And it just really wrenches my heart that people could do that to their kids. They’re given to us for a reason and God gives them to us to raise and take care of. Not to take advantage of or send back to him.”

Now, two years later, Sheriff Kyle says it’s nice to finally have some closure in the case.

“It’s like the fish that got away,” he says. “There’s some closure here.”

Horstmyer’s arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 8 at 10:00 a.m.

LAX shooting

LAX shooting: The latest

Another shooting….another SSRI antidepressant??? Airports nationwide on alert. Once again we wait and see. Then we wonder again when will it end?!

Decades of research documents that when antidepressants increase levels of serotonin they produce impulsive murder and suicide. Although with all of the absolutely insane rules and regulations TSA now has it is a wonder no one has started shooting before now! I just choose not to fly. But this is what we now know about 1 dead TSA agent and seven others wounded:

“A gunman armed with a high-powered rifle opened fire at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday morning, killing a TSA agent and wounding several others, authorities said.
Authorities said the gunman fired at several locations in Terminal 3 before police shot him. LAX police did not reveal his condition.

[Updated at 1 p.m.: The Times earlier reported that the suspect was dead. But sources have since told the paper that he is in critical condition.]

“The motive was unclear. A federal law enforcement official said that the gunman was a ticketed passenger entering the airport.

Paul Anthony Ciancia, 23, entered the airport around 9:20 a.m., Pacific Time, and opened fire inside Terminal 3. The Associated Press also reported that authorities named Ciancia as the suspect.

According to the AP:

A law enforcement official, who was briefed at LAX on the investigation but not authorized to speak publicly, said the gunman was wearing fatigues and carrying a bag containing a hand-written note that said he “wanted to kill TSA and pigs.” The official requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly.

The suspect was in custody and being treated for injuries sustained during an exchange of gunfire with police.

NJ police: Dad called, worried about LAX suspect

Posted: Nov 01, 2013 2:39 PM PDTUpdated: Nov 01, 2013 3:40 PM PDT

By MICHAEL RUBINKAM and KATHY MATHESON
Associated PressPENNSVILLE, N.J. (AP) – The young man believed to have carried out a shooting at Los Angeles International Airport had sent a sibling a text message mentioning suicide, leading their father to seek authorities’ help in finding him, a New Jersey police chief said Friday.

Paul Ciancia’s father called Pennsville Police Chief Allen Cummings early Friday afternoon saying another of his children had received a text message from the 23-year-old “in reference to him taking his own life,” the chief told The Associated Press.

The elder Ciancia, the owner of an auto-body shop in southern New Jersey, asked for help in locating Paul, Cummings said. The chief called Los Angeles police, which sent a patrol car to Ciancia’s apartment. It wasn’t clear whether the police visited before or after the airport shooting.

“Basically, there were two roommates there” Cummings said. “They said, ‘We saw him yesterday and he was fine.'”
