Celexa Pusher

“The haphazard prescribing of these dangerous drugs has got to stop!”

Dear ICFDA,

Thank you for your website. I wish more people knew about it. I would like to share a Celexa horror story but would like my e-mail address to remain confidential. My name is Shelley and you may use it.

In the spring of 2001, I had several personal tragedies which included: knee injuries caused by a head on auto collision caused by a drunk driver which totaled my vehicle and the imminent closure of my retail business due to said injuries. I had been going to the same Physician for approximately 8 years but had never really been ill during that time and only saw her for routine check ups. I have no history of mental illness or depression. I always thought that she was a good doctor and very caring person.

I was taken by ambulance from the scene of the accident which occurred on June 30, 2001. I was discharged from the hospital in a wheel chair as I could not walk from the Emergency Room. The following day, my knees swelled to the size of grapefruits and I was bruised head to toe. I could not walk. Several days later I got an appointment with my Primary Care Physician. I had pain in my knees, head (from hitting the steering wheel), and ribs (from the seat belt and airbag). I went to visit my doctor several times during the next couple of weeks for my pain. True, I was depressed but it was due to pain caused by the auto accident. She finally told me that she thought I had Fybromyalga and prescribed Celexa. I was very hesitant and kept telling her it was my knees that hurt and that it wasn’t in my head but decided to try to drugs.

The next week was a nightmare. I developed a rash over my entire body which looked like third degree burns and still have some scars from it to this day. My menstrual cycle was so heavy that I could not leave the house and feared that I would bleed to death. I began to hallucinate and was afraid to leave the house. I tried to contact my Physician when the symptoms began and was finally “allowed” to speak with her. When I advised her of these symptoms she said ,”It wasn’t supposed to that .” She advised me to quit taking the Celexa and to come into her office the next day. When I asked if I should make an appointment she said that it would not be necessary and that she would tell her office staff to let her know I was there to see her.

When I arrived at her office the next day, the Office Manager asked me if I had an appointment and I advised her of the conversation with the doctor from the previous day. She told me to wait and came back with a brown paper bag with my name on it. I was puzzled and looked inside. It was filled with Prozac samples with no explanation or product information whatsoever. That did make me really angry and I decided it was necessary to find another doctor.

The result of this is that I still have continued knee pain as physical therapy was delayed longer that it should have been, I have scars from the Celexa caused rash, I have lost my business and now have very little faith in the medical establishment.

The haphazard prescribing of these dangerous drugs has got to stop! When a Doctor prescribes anti-depressants for physical injuries from an auto accident it endangers patient health and clearly transgresses the Hippocratic Oath. Since the majority of people I speak in the course of daily life (at the grocery store, bank, library, workplace, etc.) are taking some type of anti-depressant, it seems to me that the U.S. in experiencing a huge drug abuse epidemic. Unfortunately, since it is legally prescribed it isn’t drawing as much scrutiny as it should. I hope for a day when these pill pushing for profit Doctors are held accountable for what they are doing to their patient’s lives.

Withdrawing from a Decade of Drugs

“I have a few shopping bags full of drugs given to my son.”

Dear Ann Blake Tracy,

I don’t really know where to begin but I will try. Your website is incredible and anyone thinking of letting the psychiatric system help a loved one or any human for that matter should read your books, listen to your tapes and fine comb your website.

Our horror story began in 1995 and hasn’t stopped as of today Jan. 04, 2004. Our son (only child) is still withdrawing from the treacherous side effects of all the drugs given to him mostly by force throughout the last 10 years.

He is now 29 years old and having missed 10 years of living and learning is just starting to show signs of life.

Watching him almost die in front of me has taken a toll of my body and brain and we are recovering from this ordeal. Unlike many others who have lost their loved ones to these pretentious rehabs and treatment centers has endlessly aged and stolen time from our families happiness and our lives.

I have a few shopping bags full of drugs given to my son. There are hundreds of containers of Luvox, Prozac, Buspar, Ativan, Paxil, Celexa, Thorazine, Mellaril, Serentil, Prolixin, Haldol, Risperdal, Zyprexa, Stool Softeners and many others I cannot remember. In fact I had to take a breather remembering all these poisons.

The suicide attempts and induced anger created by these cocktails of poisons is unspeakable. People who do not understand the routine drugging regime of humans who get caught up in this system need to be informed before we have nothing but drugged humans living on this earth.

There are no quick fixes for human feelings and no drug will prevent anyone from feelings we are born to feel.

We know what Tardive Dyskinesia looks like and we know what acute Akathisia is all about and Tardive Dystonia. We have spent endless nights in emergency rooms and hospitals only to see our son drugged and misunderstood like the others who happen to be locked up at the same time. We have met hundreds who have been warehoused, committed, Conserved, etc. This system is nothing more than a pharmaceutical/psychiatric money making industry damaging humans and their families. We have spent thousands of dollars seeking help with little or no help to be found just more drugging and irreversible damages.

My friends Marilyn, Delores, Cathy, Felicia, Dorothy, Anne and many others know the truths about neuroleptics and SSRI’s. We live with poisoned humans and some of us lived together as we tried everything to help our loved ones withdraw from Mind Altering Chemicals.

Zyban (Wellbutrin) “No Way”

“I think at this point the only thing that will save us is knowing about any medications before we take them.”

My husband’s horror story about Prozac and other SSRI anti depressants is posted in your web site– The Macula’s Story. We have been lucky because my husband is still alive. But we have been through a living hell, because our Primary Care Physician prescribed Prozac for my husband because he was a little down after our house burned. Who wouldn’t be?

Well last week I took my 17 year old son to our primary care physician for nasal congestion and a cough. While we were there I complained to our new Primary Care Physician, who we have been using for about 2 years now, that my son was smoking a pack of cigarettes daily. And that this was ridiculous at his age. The Doctor asked him why he was smoking and my son said, “school and work stress”. So The Doctor said to him, “I have something that will take the edge off the stress and the need to smoke”. Well I looked at the doctor and asked, “what that might be”. He said, “a new drug Zyban (Wellbutrin)”. I almost fell off the stool I was sitting on. This Doctor knew all about the adverse reaction that my husband had to Prozac and other SSRI anti-depressant drugs. We have explained it to him many times over the past 2 years.

I said, ” You forget I am the person who almost lost her husband to Prozac adverse reaction 2 years earlier, I couldn’t believe he wanted to prescribe this anti-depressant to my son. Knowing full well what had happened to my husband on anti-depressants”. He got somewhat defensive at this point and said, “this is not an SSRI anti-depressant like the others. This doesn’t work on the serotonin levels in the brain, this one works on the brain chemical dopamine”. I said, “after the hell we went through with my husband, my son will not take any medication that would alter any of his brain chemicals”.

Then I just told him, “no”. “There was no way my son was going on Zyban (Wellbutrin). I would not take the chance”. He then looked at my son, who will be 18 years old in 6 months. He laughingly told him, “come back to see me in 6 months”. I was very upset by this point. I felt like he was saying come back in 6 months so I can legally drug you without your mothers permission. Does he not think that my children went through hell also. Watching their father turn into a manic depressive, psychotic, suicidal wreck from a completely normal human being. Prozac and other anti-depressants took away their father for 1 12 years of their lives. Through my research and my finding Dr. Tracy, we helped him return to his normal self. But not without the pain and trauma it has caused all of us.

I have explained to this man over and over the hell and the trauma my husband and I and our children went through. Because some Doctor prescribed Prozac for a very stupid reason. Now I keep thinking, “I need to change Doctors”. But then I think “why”. They are all the same. They prescribe these drugs that they know nothing about. Have any of them stopped to read the adverse reactions or side effects these and any drugs can cause on the insert that come with the drugs. No, all they know is what the pharmaceutical salesperson tells them. And we know that the pharmaceutical sales person is not going to bad mouth their own medications. I think at this point the only thing that will save us is knowing about any medications before we take them. Know the adverse reactions and side effect they can cause. If you or someone you know has personality changes or things that seem different about them while on a medication, research it.

With my husband it took 1 1/2 years to realize what was going on, because we saw 5 or 6 different Doctors. I showed them the research I had done and what these drugs can do and I thought this was the cause of what he was going through. And they all said, “Prozac and these other SSRI drugs don’t do that”. Well my husband is living proof that they do. He didn’t get better until we took matters into our own hands and pulled him off all the medications they had him on. And about three weeks latter my husbands old personality started returning. But it took another 7 to 8 months for him to get to about 85% of his old self. He is still not 100% and we wonder if he ever will be. It is very frightening just going to the Doctors for my family and friends who saw what we went through anymore.
