Zoloft – an enemy attacking me

SSRI survivor Stories – Zoloft

Dear Ann,

Reading on Face Book where you made mention of Andrea Roberts shooting her husband and two children two weeks after starting on Zoloft. That really does give me a chill.

You might remember my testimony for Jesus, how that after being on Zoloft for two weeks exactly. I had this strange episode where I fell into a violent hallucination not knowing anything or anyone. It was like being plunged into another dimension of pure murderous rage where I was a mindless vicious animal. And my Mother who was the only one near by, was perceived as being an enemy attacking me.

It was a nightmare state of delusion like a false reality. And my eyes were suddenly flashing around the room to find an object to grab as a weapon. It was like watching out through my eyes as this scene unfolded, like as if I was not in control at all. And yet at the very same time, being aware that I was this other person who was totally in control. But yet not having the power or reason to even know if what was happening was even right or wrong. It was what being ”demon possessed” is like. And I was suddenly there in this demonic dimension where ”kill or be killed” seemed to be the only options. It was like a state of pure murderous rage.

Yet just when my eyes locked on a two by four piece of wood, the Holy Spirit within me snapped me out of this evil spell. In that I suddenly remembered who Mom was and I was hit with the evil horror of what I was about to do. Drugs like Zoloft which are like PCP and LSD combined open the soul to demons.

I realize that no one can be taken seriously bringing up this aspect of things in the secular fight against these drugs. And there is certainly enough medical and physical evidence to their danger without even considering the spiritual reality at play. I just want people to know that as a true Believer in Jesus and praying in Jesus Name, pleading the protective power of the shed blood of Jesus Christ over ourselves and loved ones. Especially those forced to take these drugs. – It can and will protect them from such attacks. We have the power to bind the dark forces of Satan and connecting the dots it is not hard to make the Occult / Conspiracy connection between these drugs and the agenda of the Occult powers that be in high places.

After the Holy Spirit snapped me out of that spell, saving both Mom and myself, as well as our loved ones from that horror which Satan intended to cause that day. I went outside away from Mom (Who didn’t even know what almost took place.) and I began to cry heavily, thinking I was demon possessed or totally insane. I can tell you for 100% percent certainty that demon spirits are always involved in these murders and murder suicides. That evil I remember feeling was pure demonic. I also know that it was no coincidence that I turned on my radio later that very evening after praying all day for an answer from God. Wondering how such a thing could have happened.

What were the chances that I would come across you doing a Radio interview about Zoloft and listening as you talked about case after case of people who killed others and themselves after being on Zoloft for two weeks. Only God Himself could have pre-arranged that radio interview to air that very day when I needed most desperately to hear it for some real answers.

That was back in 2001. – My Mom just passed away a couple weeks ago. (9-16-13) She died the death of a righteous soul in such peace as she saw either an angel or Jesus waiting at the foot of her bed. She suddenly looked right at me then looked away towards the foot of the bed. What ever she saw made her smile really big and then in the twinkling of an eye she was instantly gone. She was not on any drug to numb her and there was no painful struggle. There was no fear or uncertainty. We watched as she just smiled so peacefully and instantly left this world behind.

Mom’s life could have ended so differently back in 2001. – Myself and my family escaped the horrors that so many others face in these tragic and needless murder / murder suicides.

During that season in 2001 when this took place. I was in prayer often asking God to place a hedge of protection round about myself and my loved ones. I’m not talking about quick tearless prayers. But I believe earnest prayer and seeking the face of God will indeed produce supernatural results against the supernatural forces of Satan.

It is my prayer that this testimony might help others to escape the destructive plans of the Devil which he has against all our lives. If anyone doubts this reality of Satan, then they are calling Jesus a liar. For Jesus said: ”The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10

It is also written:
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
1st Peter 5:6-9

Thank You Ann Blake Tracy for being there for God to use when I needed you most. And also for the work you do.
May God Bless and Keep You and protect you and yours in Jesus Name. Amen

ANTIDEPRESSANTS!!! OREGON NATIONAL GUARD HAS FOUR SUICIDES ALREADY THIS YEAR

Bradley Hammer

Brady Hammer Died of PTSD Medication-induced Suicide

Brady Hammer is one of four Oregon National Guard members to die this year from suicide. These suicides have not been counted in the military’s report of 22 military personal dying of suicide daily. So be aware that the actual number of suicides of our troops is higher than what you are being told.

According to his sister, Brady was told he needed to start on antidepressants before going to Iraq and was given a very large bottle with instructions of what to take and when. Yet these are drugs that are supposed to be closely monitored in use for suicidal tendencies and changes in behavior. Who is doing that? If they are given the drugs prior to deployment and sent off to war who is watching for those reactions? And of course the biggest question of all is WHY do they NEED an antidepressant to go to Iraq?

If you recall I mentioned once before how shocked I was to hear that my good friend’s son from Kansas had come to his father, a Social Worker, confused about whether he should take an antidepressant because they told him he needed one in order to go to Iraq as well. Of course his father, retired military, told his son that he should not take the drugs because he would be carrying a gun and if there was ever a time he needed to have a clear head and free of mind altering substances this would be the time.

But to demonstrate for you just how hard they must have pressured this young man to even cause him to ask his father the question you need to know that I did the Geraldo Show with one of his good friends and his family in 1997. We did the show to discuss his family’s own personal tragedy due to antidepressants. The boy’s father described as one of the nicest guys in town, after only days on Zoloft, stabbed his wife, his daughter and this boy, before he died by shooting himself. To think what pressure they must have put on this young man, with him knowing full well the most horrific adverse effects of these drugs firsthand after his friend’s experience, that he would even think to approach his father with this question to me is mind boggling!

From the article below we read, “Brady Hammer, an Oregon National Guard soldier who died in Texas on July 28 from what El Paso police say was a self-inflicted gunshot wound, was a “happy-go-lucky person,” according to his sister.

“But the 24-year-old’s moods were affected by a confusing cocktail of medications prescribed by his doctors at the Warrior Transition Unit at Fort Bliss, where he had been treated for post-traumatic stress disorder, said his sister, Lacee Valentine of Grants Pass and his mother, Marie Hammer of Klamath Falls.”

The article goes on to point out that the Department of Veterans Affairs has designated this month as Suicide Prevention Month then states, “The spike in self-inflicted Oregon Guard deaths reflects a national trend. Rates of military suicides have been rising even as the armed services are working harder to prevent them.”

But what are they doing to prevent them? They are prescribing MORE drugs to MORE troops thus producing MORE suicides! WHY?!! Why are these drugs being prescribed so widely to our troops?!!! When we know there is a Black Box Warning for increased suicidal ideation in those under 25, an increase of almost double the rate, why would they do this? And additionally we have the FDA warning on abrupt changes in dose of these drugs stating that any abrupt change – which would include forgetting to take a pill, switching from one medication to another, starting or stopping the use – can cause suicide, hostility or psychosis. Why would we want our troops being put in such a vulnerable position by these drugs and taking chances for such terrible results? Clearly something must be done to stop this because at this point it is bordering on genocide!

WARNING: In sharing this information about adverse reactions to antidepressants I always recommend that you also give reference to my CD on safe withdrawal, Help! I Can’t Get Off My Antidepressant!, so that we do not have more people dropping off these drugs too quickly – a move which I have warned from the beginning can be even more dangerous than staying on the drugs!

The FDA also now warns that any abrupt change in dose of an antidepressant can produce suicide, hostility or psychosis. And these reactions can either come on very rapidly or even be delayed for months depending upon the adverse effects upon sleep patterns when the withdrawal is rapid! He Never Said Good-Bye

If you have or know of teens or pre-teens struggling with depression or hopelessness, or if you know someone on anti-depressants, I hope this account will help you. I believe that if I had read a story like the one you will now read, it might very well have saved our son. My wife would still have her little boy. My daughter would still have her little brother. And I would still have my best companion and friend in the whole wide world.

Matthew Miller
2/16/84–7/28/97

It was unusually cool for the last day of July. The sun was bright, and there were only a few scattered clouds. The gentle winds that took the teenager’s balloons skyward also helped dry our tears as we said good-bye to Matt.

This moment, as hundreds of his family and friends gathered under the shade of a gentle oak which now shelters his grave, was by far the cruelest and hardest of our lives. For until these last few days, my wife Cheryl and I had been so very blessed. We had two wonderful children. Our daughter Jenny had just turned 15 only a couple weeks earlier. We were all healthy, safe and so untouched by any real understanding of pain and sorrow. Surely, our pastor in delivering those final words must have been talking about someone else. Not our Matt.

Matt was only 13. He had never gone on a real date. Never driven a car. And never been away from home for more than a few nights at a time with friends.

He weighed exactly one hundred pounds. I know, because he was so proud of that all-important milestone in any boy’s life, he bragged to me about it just a few days before.

Yet now he was gone. Forever. Without so much as a good-bye. A hug. Or even a note.

This is his story. And I summon the courage to tell it only because I know he would want me to. And because the good Lord who now holds our Matt so tightly in his arms has asked me to.
But, as I said, he was 13. And many changes were taking place in his life. Not the least of which was our move to a new neighborhood, and a new school.

So, like most parents, we felt that his periods of moodiness and sullen behavior were not all that unusual for a young teenager. He was trying to make new friends in a new situation. He was going through many physical changes. (We noticed only recently that his voice had dropped about an octave, and that he was working far too hard to keep it there.)

By the end of his first year in a new middle school, his teachers and counselors recommended that Matt find some professional help over the summer. They knew he was smart, yet they saw problems with his grades. And they were worried that his withdrawn demeanor might be more than just a passing “teenage” phase, and could have a more deep-seated cause.

Now let me be quick to add that Matt was never violent. Never disrespectful. Nor ever a real threat, to anyone. He had a warm sense of humor, a love of friendship and heart of solid gold that his friends who knew him well, loved in him. He had a special way with little children. He would have been a wonderful father.

But together, believing what we were doing was the right thing, we began a brief, but tragic journey with Matt into a world we didn’t understand–the world of professional psychiatry and legalized mind-altering medications. An unfamiliar world with its own rules. Its own accepted procedures. And its own arrogance.

“Here, let’s try these for a week. ”

I remembered thinking at the time, how wonderful. It was only our second visit to the psychiatrist, and already the good doctor knew exactly how to help our son. It was all so easy. There was a terrific new medication available that was already helping millions with depression. The fact that we had never heard of it, didn’t matter. We weren’t doctors. And we never had to deal with depression on such personal terms before.

The drug was one of the new breed of anti-depressants. They’ve only been on the market for a few years, and they’re the ones you read about now all the time. Prozac is one of the them. So is Paxil. But the sample bottle that we were handed had a blue label, contained only seven tiny 50-mg capsules and was called Zoloft.

What we have since learned about Zoloft and related medications fills volumes. But the top line is simply this–today, doctors and psychiatrists are increasingly willing to use powerful and dangerous pills that dramatically change chemical balances in the brain. We don’t know all the answers, but we do know what happened to our son. And, we know that when things go wrong, they can go terribly wrong.

The Brain. Think about it. It’s the seat of everything that makes us human. It allows us to think and move and experience pain and joy and makes us who we are. The brain is not just any organ in the hierarchy of organs, it is the organ. The single most powerful and mysterious creation in God’s Universe. Its complexity in unfathomable, containing more than one hundred billion cells and over a trillion connections!

Now if your doctor ever tells he understands exactly what these drugs do in your brain, I will tell you this: He is lying. Because those who know the most, admit they don’t know. They experiment and they guess. But that’s about it.

And if your doctor offers what has become the standard line about depression having real physical causes, that chemical balances need to be brought back to within normal levels, or that you’re not generating enough serotonin to ever feel happy, stop him right there! Ask him these questions.

What is normal? And how do I know that my chemical balances aren’t normal? How do I know that this drug will make them normal? And what if, just maybe, I’m unhappy about real problems in my life?

Most likely, however, your doctor will tell you little or nothing. Ours didn’t. Because the truth is, they neither understand, nor are they willing to explain what these drugs can do and have done to countless of thousands, once they take control of the processes in the brain.

We like to think of our doctors as highly skilled technicians. I know that Cheryl and I did. We hope and pray that they can adjust our chemistry much like a skilled mechanic fine tunes a sports car. But Dr. Peter Breggin, a psychiatrist whom Time Magazine calls “Prozac’s Worst Enemy,” points out in his book, it is more like a “clumsy office colleague spilling coffee on your computer. Except that your brain is far more vulnerable and easily damaged.”

Our doctor simply said try these pills for a week.

We didn’t have a week.

Our Son Didn’t Want to Die

I can’t believe our son wanted to die. I never will.

Yet sometime during the night after taking his seventh capsule of Zoloft, he got out of bed, entered his closet and quietly left us. We never heard a sound even though our room shared an adjacent wall.

He did not leave a note. He had never threatened suicide. He never talked about it. He indicated in his doctor’s office just a week before, he would never consider suicide an option. He never gave us any indication that he had been thinking about it. I honestly don’t believe he had thought about it, until something happened inside his tortured mind that night.

There was no cry for help. No scream. Nothing…but that single, fateful, horrifying and irreversible act.
We were leaving on a long-anticipated family vacation the next morning. Matt, although he hated long drives, had been looking forwarding to jet skiing at the Wisconsin resort where we had reserved a room overlooking Lake Michigan. He had just purchased a new GameBoy and his all-time favorite Zelda game. He had just told his girl friend that very evening that he would call her from Wisconsin in a few days.

For a bright, healthy and loved young man, Matt had every reason to live. Yet under the power of this debilitating drug, he found a way to die. We know it was not our Matt who took his own life. This was a Matt “high” on a legalized pill. Reality and nightmares became indistinguishable for him. His world–the universe that was his chemically stimulated, serotonin-enriched, emotionally-tortured brain—came crashing down around him with such ferocity, he had no way out.

What we now know to have happened, from published research, phone calls, and e-mail with leading authors in this field, is that our son suffered drug-induced “akathisia” which led to the mania which caused his death. Akathisia is simply an uncontrollable agitation or restlessness brought about by the stimulant nature of the drug. We all noticed that Matt had become especially hyperactive that last day. His sister complained that Matt was being loud and bothering her more than normal. His grandmother who was visiting remarked that Matt could hardly sit still through our Sunday brunch.

Mania is a well-documented side effect with SSRI use. And what we didn’t know is that in depressed people, this mania is often the trigger that leads to suicidal thoughts and actions. Depression in and of itself rarely accounts for suicide. Zoloft, in Matt’s case, was like throwing a match onto gasoline. It’s exactly this reaction that prompts many doctors to also prescribe a sedative along with anti-depressants in the initial stages of treatment. We were so ignorant.

Matt was a victim. And, as we soon found out, there have been many, many others before him. Yet few people are aware of just how troubled a past these drugs have had. Few parents are aware. Few patients are aware. And most frightening of all, few doctors are aware, including Matt’s psychiatrist.

A Short Course in SSRI’s

I didn’t know what these initials stood for until about a week after Matt’s death. Technically, this family of drugs is called Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors. I now have my own interpretation of this acronym–Stop. Scream. And Run Instead.
Dr. Ann Tracy, a Ph.D. in psychology and health sciences, National Director for the International Coalition of Drug Awareness and a tireless researcher into these drugs, compares them to many of the illegal psychotropic drugs being pushed on street corner–drugs like “speed,” cocaine or LSD. (She is also quick to add that at least these are sold without the pretense or hypocrisy of being good for you.) Dr. Peter Breggin, Director for the Center of the Study of Psychiatry simply says the new anti-depressants have a “dark side.”

The FDA keeps records on adverse drug reactions. It’s a purely voluntary system so it probably under-reports the magnitude of the real problem (some suggest it could miss as many as 90% of the cases!), but still the numbers are compelling.

Jane Heimlich, in Health and Healing, states, “Prozac has the distinction of having the most ADR’s [adverse drug reactions] in history.” And you need to realize that these drugs have only been around for less than a decade!

As of October, 1993, during only the first two years of Prozac’s marketing, over 28,000 complaints of adverse side effects had been filed with the FDA, including nearly 2,000 suicide attempts. 1,300 deaths were reported. As of last year (1996), the number of complaints has risen to 36,000. To put this in perspective, consider that Elavil, another anti-depressant has received only a tenth as many, with just 2,000 complaints in its entire 20 years on the market.

However, it’s the tragic stories behind these numbers that are the real eye-openers. Besides Matt’s, there are many, many more. And, in a way, we were lucky. These drugs are present in patients who have committed some of the most violent, unpredictable and disturbing crimes and suicides you could ever imagine.

“But if they weren’t safe, they couldn’t prescribe them.”

My wife made this observation. My friends have. We want to believe we are protected from these drugs.

But consider that LSD was once legal. In the 1950’s it was promoted by Eli Lilly as an aid to psychoanalysis, a cure for alcoholism and a way to clear up mental illness. PCP, now referred to as Angel Dust, was legal. It was marketed by Parke, Davis & Company as Serynl, an analgesic, or painkiller! Thalidomide, the horror drug of the 50’s that directly caused the tragic deformed births of over 5,000 newborns, many without limbs, was also a legal drug. It was marketed as a sleeping pill. And most recently, Redux and Fen-Phen were legal. Millions of people, mostly women, now face heart valve problems and a perilous withdrawal as these drugs are removed from shelves. Each of these drugs was tested in the marketplace before being recalled. Yet many remain in today’s drug counterculture as a gift to the world from the same manufacturers creating new pills today.

There is a long history of today’s pharmaceutical companies rushing drugs through testing and through FDA approval only to find out later that severe adverse reactions occur in the real world. (Did you know that drug companies test their own drugs for the FDA?) In the case of Prozac, it was approved on the basis of only seventeen studies over the course of just four to six weeks. Although they will tell that thousands of people were tested in this phase, it is fact that just fewer than 300 people were exposed to this drug in these trials!

And don’t believe for a moment this is an isolated incident of one drug slipping through the cracks. In 1990, the General Accounting Office, a congressional watchdog agency, reviewed all the drugs approved by FDA between 1976 and 1985. It found that 102 out of 198 drugs turned out to have “serious post approval risks.” The rate was even higher for psychiatric drugs. (Nine out of 15.)

And you need to understand that 80% of the drugs marketed in the United States today are not approved by the FDA for use by children under twelve. Studies simply have not been done to sufficiently document their safety and efficacy in this age group. And consequently, their use in treating children is solely up to the discretion of the physician. Appallingly, Eli Lilly is going ahead with plans to market Prozac in peppermint and other assorted flavors to make the drug more attractive as a children’s medication!

Today, over 17 million people now take some kind of SSRI medication. They’re taking it for everything from insomnia to acne to weight loss to alcohol addiction. And the two largest manufacturers, Eli Lilly (Prozac) and Pfizer (Zoloft) now have worldwide revenues of $2.6 billion and $1.6 billion respectively.

So how can a drug be so successful, and yet so dangerous? This is the question I set to out to answer for myself. And I believe the answer lies in our own willingness to believe that there’s a quick solution for everything.

We want to believe in miracles. We want something for nothing. And if you would believe the ads currently running for Prozac, it’s all yours for the taking. When a cloud hangs overhead, there’s sunshine in a bottle.

It’s so easy. It’s so deceiving.

What Can You Do?

Educate yourself. Ask questions about the drugs your doctor prescribes. Trust in yourself. Trust in God. But don’t believe in miracles.

Our veterinarian gave us five pages of information on medication prescribed for our dog’s stomach problems. We received nothing that would help us understand Zoloft. There was no discussion about alternative treatments, which should have included the most common-sense approach of preliminary counseling and therapy. The diagnosis was quick (we assume our doctor found “depression” although we were never informed what Matt was being treated for).

Please do not allow this to happen to yourself or a loved one. The primary role of these medications is to change the way your brain functions. It’s a drug that creates abnormalities. It doesn’t correct them.

So be aware. Learn from our pain. Please understand that depression is a potentially life-threatening illness. Be an alarmist. And don’t allow anyone in your family to take any prescription drug that you know little about.

Don’t be afraid to just say no.

We will sleep better knowing that Matt’s life which meant so much to those who knew him, could perhaps someday mean the difference between life and death for yourself or a loved one.

For the first time I know I am not nuts!

“I’ve been on Zoloft for about a year and a half and I’ve hated every day of it.”

I’ve been reading through the posts on this site and thanking God that I really am not crazy!

I’ve been on Zoloft for about a year and a half and I’ve hated every day of it. The days I hate the most are when I can’t afford to refill it. I’ve told my doctor several times to please get me OFF THIS! When I can’t afford it I have to stop abruptly. THAT IS HELL!

My face goes numb. Then I my heart starts to skip so bad I can’t stop coughing. Sometimes it even throws me into a full fledged asthma attack even worse sometimes MAJOR panic attacks!

I just want to know how to stop. I just need to get off it. I am not glad that I am not the only who has had this happen but at the same time it’s bitter sweet because at least I am not alone.

If anyone has suggestions PLEASE email me.

PLEASE HELP US GET SOME CRITICAL INFORMATION OUT TO THE PUBLIC

Mark Taylor
MARK ALLEN TAYLOR

(FIRST BOY SHOT AT COLUMBINE HIGH)

At the International Coalition for Drug Awareness we have been in the process of putting together some very critical information on antidepressants and school shootings and other acts of violence for the Columbine anniversary and we need your help. For over two decades I have worked to fund by myself most all of what we have done in the raising awareness of the dangers of antidepressants (mortgaging my own home multiple times and putting the funds from our materials back into this). But after a couple of decades at this point I do not have any funding to help when we now need to gather some of the most critical information yet – information that should REALLY help to wake up society. So I am asking for help from all of you to help us do that.

We have been informed that to get this information it is going to cost us between $400 – $600. Any of you who can help us in any way we urgently need your help! This is because we need to get the information BEFORE the Columbine anniversary on April 20 to get media attention from that. (I am sorry because of the late notice. It took me some time to track this information down and I would have sent this request out much sooner had it not been for the terrible accident my brother suffered last week – thank you for the prayers as they have produced miracles but things are still extremely critical.)

Please help if you can! Any amount so that we can get this done will be GREATLY appreciated and this information will be shared with the world. Much of this information most have been unaware of before and this will bring it to public light. I firmly believe it will make a BIG difference in this battle we are waging for truth about these drugs. I know you will be excited to share this as soon as we get it. PLEASE go to our website to make your donation now:

http://www.drugawareness.org/contact/support-the-site

Then watch over the next couple of weeks for this explosive information to begin to be posted from our DrugAwareness.org site!

Thank you!

ZOLOFT: AURORA THEATER SHOOTER WAS ON ZOLOFT

jp-aurora-8-articleinline1.jpg
ZOLOFT: AURORA THEATER SHOOTER WAS ON ZOLOFT! We all knew it and I have documentation that he was showing signs of Serotonin Syndrome that night when arrested so I knew it would surface sooner or later. This article discloses the medications found in his room:

And because this happened in Denver there are reasons why this would have been kept from the public for almost a year…BUT the laws have recently been changed so that the generic drugs cannot be sued!!! If you are taking a generic, which insurance companies do everything they can to get patients on, you are on your own when something like this happens!!! Justice? Not in this country!!!

ZOLOFT: MULTIPLE LAWSUITS FILED FOR MULTIPLE BIRTH DEFECTS

I do not believe it is clear to many people how serious these SSRI birth defect cases really are. This is to give you an idea of just how serious the birth defect cases are going against these drug companies…

Child was born with multiple birth defects…The complainant states that she took Zoloft throughout her pregnancy after it was prescribed by her treating physicians. She gave birth to a child with numerous congenital birth defects. The baby has been diagnosed with spina bifida, scoliosis, vater syndrome, tracheoesophageal fistula, and mitral valve regurgitation.

New Jersey Woman Files Zoloft Birth Defects Lawsuit

Perry Larkin | November 6th, 2012 | Posted in Zoloft Lawsuits

A New Jersey woman filed a new Zoloft litigation on October 17, 2012 seeking damages against manufacturer Pfizer, Inc. According to the filing the woman took the antidepressant Zoloft during her pregnancy and it caused multiple birth defects in her newborn son.

The case was filed in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York (Foley Square). She makes complaints of product liability, defective design, failure to warn, negligence and misrepresentation and seeks punitive and actual damages.

Zoloft accused of showing “willful disregard” to informing the public of risks

According to studies, Zoloft has long been linked to birth defects in newborns. In spite of FDA regulations that the new medical evidence requires Pfizer to update the warning label, the company has yet to do so.

The plaintiff’s attorney states that the company showed a willful disregard to informing the medical community and public of the risk of congenital birth defects due to Zoloft and this caused permanent harm to his client’s son. The label still fails to warn of the dangers and risks of congenital birth defects of Zoloft if it’s taken during pregnancy.

The plaintiff claims that her baby suffered from the following side effects of Zoloft: spina bifida, vater syndrome, clubfoot and other related defects.

Pfizer alleged to have known of side effects as early as 2007

The lawsuit alleges that Pfizer carelessly marketed the product and failed to provide sufficient warning as to the possible side effects to pregnant women. This case joins other designated cases for the pilot program of the district court, which aims to address complex civil cases.

The complaint says that in 2007, Pfizer knew that selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) like Zoloft doubled the risk of septal heart defects in babies who were born to mothers who took the medication. In studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine, it indicates that a four-fold increase in heart defects was connected to pregnant women using Zoloft during their first trimester. Other studies showed that using the medication while pregnant is also linked to a higher occurrence of heart malformation.

Child was born with multiple birth defects

The complainant states that she took Zoloft throughout her pregnancy after it was prescribed by her treating physicians. She gave birth to a child with numerous congenital birth defects. The baby has been diagnosed with spina bifida, scoliosis, vater syndrome, tracheoesophageal fistula, and mitral valve regurgitation.

The plaintiff seeks compensation for medical costs, as well as punitive and special damages.

Zoloft Caused Daughter’s Birth Defects, Tennessee Parents Claim in Lawsuit

Tracy Ray | October 24th, 2012 | Posted in Zoloft Lawsuits

In a lawsuit against Pfizer that was recently added to the Zoloft MDL, parents Michael and Shana Reid of Tennessee charge that their daughter was born with birth defects resulting from Zoloft. The Reids originally filed their lawsuit on June 8, 2012, in the Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia County, and the case was transferred to the Zoloft MDL in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Pennsylvania, on August 16, 2012.

Baby needed surgery for life-threatening defects

According to the Reid’s lawsuit, Shana Reid was prescribed Zoloft by her physician during her pregnancy. She read the drug’s warning label, but did not see anything about birth defects, so she trusted that the antidepressant was safe to use while pregnant. Had she been warned about the risk of birth defects resulting from Zoloft, she would not have taken it during her pregnancy, she states in the lawsuit.

The Reid’s baby was born on October 14, 2004 with life-threatening congenital birth defects, the lawsuit states. As a result, the child has undergone corrective surgery and is likely to require further surgeries in future.

Plaintiffs accuse Pfizer of failure to warn mothers of Zoloft’s risks

The Reid’s lawsuit alleges that Pfizer was aware of the risk of side effects after taking Zoloft, but failed to adequately warn the public or the medical community. Their lawsuit charges that Pfizer’s marketing and advertising for Zoloft misled pregnant women and their doctors by giving inaccurate or misleading information about the danger Zoloft poses to a fetus when the drug is taken during pregnancy.

The lawsuit bring counts of failure to warn, design defect, fraud, negligence, gross negligence, negligent design, and breach of warranties. The plaintiffs are seeking compensation in excess of $75,000 in damages.

FDA issued warning about Zoloft birth defects

The FDA issued a warning in July 2006 stating that studies had shown that babies born to mothers who took Zoloft or other SSRI antidepressants during pregnancy were six times more likely to be born with PPHN than babies born to mothers who did not take antidepressants.
The following year, a 2007 study published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that women who took Zoloft during the first trimester had double the risk of giving birth to an infant with heart defects, compared to those who did not take antidepressants.

CASE #3

A Lawsuit Alleging Birth Defects From Zoloft is Filed in Pennsylvania
Perry Larkin | October 15th, 2012 | Posted in Zoloft Lawsuits
On September 10, 2012, a new lawsuit alleging birth defects from the use of Zoloft while pregnant was filed on behalf of ten plaintiffs by Zoloft attorneys. The case, Lentz et. Al. v. Pfizer Inc., was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and alleges that the antidepressant Zoloft (sertraline) is responsible for the birth defects in their children.

This lawsuit joins the increasing number of plaintiffs who are seeking compensation for the alleged problems as a result of the medication.

Pfizer is accused of knowing of the risk of birth defects and failing to alert the public

The lawsuit alleges that Pfizer knew of the possibility of birth defects from preclinical and published studies and took no action to properly study the drug and its aftereffects. In addition, they chose not to publish these studies due to the revelation of increased risks with the drug. The manufacturer is accused of concealing, suppressing the results, and failing to warn consumers of the potential dangers. Pfizer continues to deny these accusations.

Many side effects from Zoloft can affect the heart, the gastrointestinal system, and cranial malformations

The children were born between 1998 and 2011. A correlation was demonstrated in studies between 2007 and 2009 that indicated the increased risk of birth defects when women take Zoloft while pregnant, but the plaintiffs were unaware of these studies. The plaintiffs claim that if they’d known of the risks, they never would have taken the drug.
Some of the side effects resulting from Zoloft use described in the lawsuit include gastrointestinal problems such as anteriorly displaced anus and omphalocele; heart defects such as right-sided aortic arch, patent ductus arteriosus, cleft mitral valve, transposition of the great arteries, atrial and ventrical septal defects, anomalous pulmonary venous return, and aotrtic stenosis; and craniofacial malformations such as cleft lip and palate, and multiple-suture craniosynostosis.

Pfizer’s safety information posted online doesn’t mention birth defects
On their website, Pfizer has posted “Important Safety Information” about possible complications of Zoloft, but doesn’t specifically mention birth defects. The site does state that “[w]omen who are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or who are breastfeeding should not take any antidepressant without consulting their doctor,” but to date doesn’t acknowledge any risk of birth defects, nor does it indicate that Zoloft poses any risk to a pregnancy that other antidepressants don’t also pose.

Zoloft Drugmaker Blamed for Child Death

Elise Kramer | October 11th, 2012 | Posted in Zoloft Lawsuits

A New York couple has filed a lawsuit against Zoloft drug maker Pfizer, claiming that the antidepressant Zoloft is responsible for the birth defects experienced by their deceased son. The lawsuit was filed on August 17, 2012, in the United States’ District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, where the current Zoloft multidistrict litigation case is taking place. Jessica and Shawn Coon are claiming that Zoloft was responsible for the side effects experienced by their child, as Jessica took the medication during her pregnancy; they claim that they were not adequately informed of potential side effects associated with the medication at the time.

Negligence claimed by couple

The plaintiffs claim that the deceased minor, known as J.A.C., was born with congenital heart defects caused by birth defects after Zoloft use. He passed away just one month after he was born at the West Chester Medical Center in New York. They claim that because of Pfizer’s negligence and misrepresentation, Jessica Coon continued to take the SSRI drug Zoloft while she was pregnant with her child, which resulted in the birth defects he suffered and in his subsequent death.

The lawsuit claims that Pfizer and its subsidiaries, including Greenstone LLC, did not demonstrate reasonable care in the production, marketing, and distribution of their antidepressant, which caused a number of patients to suffer from birth defects as a result of the drug’s use by pregnant mothers. A number of studies have shown that Zoloft can be linked to an increased risk in birth defects, including PPHN and congenital heart disorders, which can be fatal in serious cases.

Numerous birth defects associated with antidepressant

The growing number of plaintiffs who have chosen to file a birth defects lawsuit related to Zoloft indicates the serious concern about birth defects related to the drug. Studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine revealed that infants born to women taking SSRI medications such as Zoloft were 50 percent more likely to develop heart defects and other serious heart problems.

STUDY: 75% OF THOSE TAKING ANTIPSYCHOTIC MEDS SHOW LOSS OF BRAIN MATTER!

elsevier[1]

Our most recent post was on the extreme increase in the use of antipsychotic medications – especially in children: Since 1993 use in children (who have no choice in the decision) skyrocketed by 800%, in teens by 500%, and in adults by 200%. Now a new study just out demonstrates brain damage in 75% of those who take these drugs!!

THE IMPACT UPON SOCIETY

Think it does not affect you because you are not on them? Better think again because we will all pay to care for those suffering brain damage from these drugs in higher taxes, higher insurance rates, disability payments, etc. and in reduced productivity & creativity via the contributions these people could have made to our society had their brains remained intact and functioning.

SEROTONIN-INDUCED OXYGEN DEPRIVATION

PRODUCING CELL DEATH

Of course my first question would be, “How many of those patients tested had previously been on antidepressants BEFORE they were given antipsychotics to treat their antidepressant-induced psychosis which antidepressants are so prone to produce?” Why would I want to know that? Because antidepressants ALSO decrease the blood flow to the brain as will any other drug that increases serotonin. The main function of serotonin is constriction of smooth muscle tissue such as the veins & arteries that carry oxygen to the brain.

CORKSCREW BRAIN CELLS FROM ANTIDEPRESSANTS

As early as a decade ago in February of 2000 Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia published research indicating that several serotonergic medications within only four days use caused a shriviling up of brain cells or taking on of abnormal corkscrew shapes. (What a nice technical way to express that these drugs literally screw up the brain!) The drugs featured in this research were all serotonergic – the antidepressants Prozac and Zoloft, and the diet drugs Redux and Meridia which have now been pulled from the market due to the brain damage produced by these drugs (see below for that explanation).

BRAIN CELL DEATH? PERMANENT OR TEMPORARY?

The lead researcher in this study concluded: “We don’t know if results with four days of drug treatment are clinically significant,” Dr. Kalia says. “We don’t know if the cells are dying. That’s the key question. We need to do more studies to prove cell death. These effects may be transient and reversible. Or they may be permanent.” (Please see my comments below on the question of permanent damage or temporary.)

POPULAR DIET PILLS PULLED DUE TO BRAIN DAMAGE

Another piece of information few have is the fact that Fen-Phen & Redux were pulled from the market due to the massive brain damage they caused, not the heart valve damage or PPHN that so many assumed was the reason they were pulled from the market. Just two weeks before the removal of those drugs  from the market the National Institutes of Health (NIH) had finished an extensive study on Redux & brain damage which the manufacturer, Wyeth, was suppose to have completed as part of the drug’s approval a full year before.

The NIH study results demonstrated some of the most massive brain damage you could imagine! JAMA published the study August 27 1997, titled, “Brain serotonin neurotoxicity and primary pulmonary hypertension from fenfluramine and dexfenfluramine. A systematic review of the evidence.”

BRAIN SEROTONIN NEUROTOXICITY?!!

PLEASE note that term in discussing ANY drug that increases serotonin! Make the connection between elevated serotonin and neurotoxicity – brain damage!

Within a couple of weeks after pubication that NIH study the drugs were off the market! But tragically that left MANY patients in horrific cold turkey withdrawal which naturally resulted in many suicides, murder/suicides, and deep depression which most had never suffered from before taking these serotonergic diet pills. These cases went mostly unnoticed or recognized as related to the drugs or the cold turkey withdrawal from these drugs. At that point many of those patients ended up on antidepressants which helped to stop the withdrawal, but of course should be expected to continue the damage to the brain via the excess serotonin they too produce. This is an example of a dangerous senario all those on antidepressants need to be aware of – the potential abrupt withdrawal of the drugs they are taking being pulled with little to no warning.

IS THERE HOPE AFTER SUCH DAMAGE?

I have long contended that this brain damage does not have to be permanent. I do believe there is hope for recovery, but I think you have to work at it. Just stopping the drugs producing the damage is not enough. Please go to www.drugawareness.org/alternatives to see just how many options there are to restoring one’s health and brain function after the use of these drugs. You can even see brain scans before and after some of the treatments showing recovery.

I would also refer all to our website link to alternatives we have found to help and also to a special done by Dr. Sanjay Gupta from CNN, who, after interviewing with him I have much respect for as a brilliant and open minded scientist and good human being. ZOLOFT: STACY SCHULER, EX-OHIO TEACHER, REDUCED SENTENCE FOR HAVING SEX WITH 5 STUDENTS

r-STACY-SCHULER-large570[1]

Stacy Schuler, Lebbanon, OH Teacher

(Click link below the first article to see video)

Stated in the first article below:  “Testimony from a defense psychologist had suggested that Schuler’s medical and physical ailments, combined with her vegan diet and use of alcohol and an antidepressant, helped impair her ability to tell right from wrong.”

He could have summed it all up with “the antidepressant produced nymphomania & poor judgement & impulsive behavior by inducing manic behavior.”  The first case I testified in like this was in Utah in the mid 90’s. I had already followed the high profile case of Mary Kay Letourneau who had sex with a 13 year old student, spent 7 years in prison, gave birth to two of his children & then married him – something no one had seen before. She was diagnosed Bipolar so an antidepressant would pretty much be a given in that case although we were never able to document it. From that point on I began to track these cases of teacher/student sexual assaults. Women patients had reported over and over again that they began to act & feel like a teenager again on these drugs & women reported they began to date very young men while on antidepressants.

So far in looking at as many cases as I have been able to follow up on for a decade & a half there has been only one where I have not found an antidepressant involved in the case. When you understand how often antidepressants produce mania this should not be difficult to understand. Too many forget that one type of mania is nyphomania leading regularly to sexual indiscretions during manic episodes. Malcomb Bowers from Yale found over a decade ago in a study that 8% – 11% of those in psych wards of general hospitals were there because of SSRI antidepressant-induced mania (Bipolar). They then pointed out that it is so rare for doctors to notice that the antidepressant was the CAUSE of the mania (Bipolar) that the real rate should be expected to be far greater. If I recall correctly at that point the figures indicated that was 250,000 people a year becoming manic on the SSRI antidepressants which they expected to be a very low figure!

When you look at the types of mania possible coming from antidepressant use in considering the impact of this antidepressant-induced mania upon our society ….

…. besides nymphomania described as sexual compulsions – a pathologic preoccupation with sexual fantasies or activities leading to divorces, unwed pregnancies, sexual assaults of all kinds, not just female teachers seducing male students. The head of the sex abuse treatment program for Utah estimated 80% of sex crime perpetrators were on antidepressants at the time of the crime. While Karl Von Kleist, an ex-LAPD officer and leading polygraph expert estimated 90% of those accused in child sexual abuse were on antidepressants – strong evidence of manic sexual compulsions that demand attention.

….dipsomania is an overwhelming compulsion to drink alcohol leading to many new alcoholics, many more returning to drinking after years of sobriety, increased numbers of DUIs, alcohol related accidents, alcohol related criminal charges, etc.

….kleptomania compulsion to embezzle, shoplift, commit robberies of all types by those who have no history of such behavior before medication, embezzlement from employers, misappropriation of funds, etc.

….pyromania compulsion to start fires leading to many cases of arson, even to setting oneself on fire.

This is only a handful of MANY, MANY types of mania such as the wild spending sprees leading many into bankruptsy. And leaving questions for us about how many of our government leaders might be suffering from this wild spending stemming from antidepressant-induced mania.

Then when you look at the REM Sleep Behavior Disorder where 86% of those being diagnosed with it are taking an antidepressant you see the memory loss for the incident as well. In the third article below find this statement:

“Harry Plotnick, a toxicologist and attorney, testified that Schuler suffered from mania in connection with taking medically-prescribed Zoloft and that those effects were magnified by alcohol consumption.

“The effects of that interaction could cause blackouts, in which individuals aren’t aware of their actions, and memory loss, he said.

“Schuler’s attorneys have argued that it’s not known if the sexual acts occurred, because Schuler has no memory of them.”
