Aviles will always remember his smile.

West Centennial graduate, had a big grin and knew how to make his younger cousin
laugh.
“He was like the life of the party,” says Nicole Aviles. “He
always had a big grin on his face.”
The sister of the man wounded by police Wednesday night in
downtown Hastings said she believes he was trying to commit “suicide by cop.
“I’m going all the way out. Once they pull me over or anything I’m
shooting them until I run out of bullets,” Roman Tokarev wrote in a note his
sister Olesya Good’s husband found Wednesday before she alerted police.
Hours later, officers shot Tokarev, 27, after he allegedly pointed a gun
at them and tried to ram their squad cars during a chase
It has been one year
since Michael Richardson was shot to death by Breckenridge police, but the
grieving continues for family and friends.
Shai Berry, a family friend,
organized Justice for Mike to raise funds to help Richardson’s family. Her
response is typical of those with questions that have lingered since his
death.

A former police
lieutenant’s civil suit against the borough is scheduled to go before the court
early next year.
Kelly Ruroede filed his suit against the borough, the
police department and the mayor and council earlier this year following his
termination from the Hasbrouck Heights Police Department on Dec. 9, 2008.
Ruroede’s case will go before Judge Estela De La Cruz at Bergen County Superior
Court on Jan. 5, 2010, according to borough officials.

OTTAWA The 28-year-old son of a
former high tech executive has pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm,
for grabbing his mother by the neck, smashing her head on the floor, covering
her nose and mouth to prevent her from breathing and throwing her down a flight
of stairs.
Roman Osadca admitted he was angry at his mother Elizabeth
Osadca on Oct. 7, 2008 after learning his ex-girlfriend had married. So he
charged toward his mother and tossed her on the floor, repeatedly punching and
shaking her head from side to side before placing both hands over her nose and
mouth.
A mother has been
convicted after “deliberately wielding a handbag” and striking a police
officer.
Diminutive Lorna Vinten, 44, charged in to help her son who was
being restrained by four police officers, swinging her small blue handbag
containing her keys, cigarettes and mobile phone.
But despite Redhill
Magistrates’ Court hearing the handbag had struck with the force of a pillow,
Mrs Vinten was convicted of two counts of assault, and resisting a constable in
the execution of his duty.
LUCKNOW – Mystery continues to
surround the suicide by Uttar Pradesh IAS officer Harminder Raj Singh two days
after he allegedly shot himself dead with his licensed revolver. He was on
anti-depressants for the past six months, sources close to the family
said.
Some of Singh’s friends in the bureaucracy are still shocked over
the death. “Harminder Raj Singh was of the type who would have definitely left
behind something in black in white,” asserted a close friend who prefers
anonymity. Singh’s body was cremated in Delhi Monday afternoon.
Dear Annie: I am a 16-year-old girl who still wets the bed. I have
tried everything from wearing an alarm to taking medication.
I am now on
a prescription that works by telling my kidneys to stop producing urine,
although it doesn’t work all the time. A urologist prescribed an antidepressant
that prevents me from sleeping too deeply. With the combination of these two
medicines, I no longer wet the bed. However, the antidepressant causes me to be
uncontrollably angry all the time. I also don’t sleep well when I take it, which
just adds to my irritability. It has gotten so bad that it has started to affect
my relationships with friends and family.
Pay for the blue pill that works, not the red one that
doesn’t. That’s the president’s simple prescription for improving American
health care, one that relies on government panels and committees to set
guidelines for doctors and patients alike.
At least, that’s the
theory.
The theory met messy reality last week when the U.S. Preventive
Services Task Force recommended that women in their 40s shouldn’t get
mammograms. But the secretary of health and human services — who, incidentally,
oversees this panel — thinks women probably should. And the American Cancer
Society believes that they definitely should; major private insurance companies,
for the record, will continue to fund the tests.
