As long as benzos like Valium, Xanax, Klonopin, Dalmane, etc. have been around there is absolutely no excuse whatsoever for doctors not to be more aware of the horrific withdrawal associated with these drugs! It was found that in the initial trials of Xanax when tested on humans that 1/3 of those just taking it for the trial period could not get off the drug because it is so addictive!
But with that thought in mind there is also no excuse for doctors to be completely unaware of antidepressant withdrawal hell. Why do the doctors remain in complete ignorance of this?! They seem absolutely unwilling to listen to their patients tell them about how horrible the withdrawal from antidepressants can be. They are causing so many problems for so many patients by bringing them off all these medications much too abruptly or even cold turkey – a practice dangerous enough that it can result in death from heart attack, seizures, Serotonin Syndrome, etc., not to mention the most dangerous of all, the REM Sleep Disorder in which patients act out their nightmares like Andrea Yates drowning her five children! I want to share Brian’s experience with you as he has done such a great job of detailing how horrific this process of withdrawal can be if you do not have the information on safe withdrawal posted below. How sad it is that so many family members of those going through this just do not understand what their loved ones are going through in withdrawal from all these dangerous drugs. Keep in mind that went through this as a young man in his early 30’s so just how much worse is it for an elderly patient to go through?
